Indian Food

Chicken Tandoori

Vegetable Curry

This past year I discovered Indian food. I know you are thinking, a foodie like me still has food left to discover? It's true. I am doing an entire post on Indian food because it is a gluten free and paleo eater's best friend. Be sure to ask, but on most Indian menus the only item with wheat flour is the naan, or flat bread. At my favorite restaurant all of the breaded and deep fried items are made from a lentil or garbanzo bean flour, the curry is made from coconut milk and spices, and there are even gluten free desserts. My favorite dishes are any kind of curry (can be ordered mild, medium, or hot) and the tandoori minced lamb kebabs, cooked over an open flame. Both dairy and grain free.

So have I talked you into trying it? If so check out some online reviews and ask friends before you go. Make sure you are going to a high quality restaurant, I did try one that left much to be desired. I would also suggest the lunch buffet if it is available, this is a great way to try lots of dishes and find out what you like without investing more than the price of one meal.

10 year old HEAVEN!

A few years ago I had heard that there was a pizza place in downtown Salt Lake City that served gluten free pizza. I shop Salt Lake frequently but stay away from the downtown if possible so I have never tried it out. Last week I had an errand in the downtown and my son was with me. We looked up the pizza restaurant and gave it a try. I didn't have any, but my 10 year old son said he was in Heaven! Pier 49 San Francisco Sourdough, 238 S. Main Street, they not only serve pizza but some yummy looking salads too.

Restaurant Review: El Chubasco's Chicken Salad

Looking for a restaurant where you can safely eat Gluten Free or SCD or Paleo? El Chubasco's in Park City, Utah is the place. It was so good that I decided it's time to start writing restaurant reviews. In general I don't go out to eat, and if I do I go to the same old standby restaurant and order the same old dish, knowing it is safe. This beautiful Chicken Taco Salad was such a nice surprise I am excited about breaking out of my rut and trying more new things.

El Chubasco Restaurant is a fast cafe style restaurant, with the most incredible salsa bar you have ever seen. There are about 20 choices of freshly made salsa ranging from super mild to super hot habenjero salsa. I ordered the Chicken Taco Salad minus the tortilla shell, beans, cheese, sour cream, and rice. After placing your order you seat yourself and while you are waiting for your food you can choose your salsas and if your diet allows munch on warm corn tortilla chips while you are waiting for your food to arrive. On the wall hangs a framed newspaper article that says the restaurant doesn't even own a can opener, that is how fresh the food is, and it works. We were there at 12:30 in the afternoon and the place was packed.

The salad was divine, chopped romaine and cabbage with tomatoes and loads of seasoned chicken topped with guacamole. I was able to try a selection of salsas as dressing. There was only one salsa that contained sour cream I was not able to try. My favorites were the Mild Green and the Tomatillo Cilantro which was a medium heat. I have to say their guacamole was the best I have ever had, next time I will order an extra scoop of it for my salad....uh...I feel another rut coming on.
